Sir George Abbiss was an English policeman. He was born in 1884 at Hitchin and died in 1966. He was the second officer to rise through the ranks to become Assistant Commissioner of Scotland Yard. Originally a gardener, he joined the Metropolitan police in 1905 and was an ordinary constable, later a Sergeant and Station Sergeant before being promoted to Inspector in 1919. In 1920 he was awarded the MBE and in 1932 the OBE in 1933 being appointed Assistant Commissioner before retiring in 1946.

John Peel (real name John Robert Parker Ravenscroft) was an English disc-jockey and broadcaster. He was born in 1939 at Heswall, Merseyside and died in 2004. A pioneering disc-jockey, he took the pseudonym 'John Peel' while working at the pirate radio station 'Radio London' during the 1960s. He is remembered by many as the BBC Radio One DJ who gave air-time to new bands, which otherwise may never have been heard. He was awarded the OBE in 1998.

Richard Meade OBE is a British three-day event horseman. He was born in 1938. He was a member of Britain's gold-medal winning team at the 1968 Mexico Olympic Games and won the 1970 Badminton championship riding 'The Poacher', and later in 1970 was a member of the British winning team at the world championships. At the 1972 Munich Olympic Games he won a gold medal in both the individual and team events riding 'Laurieston'.

Verity Lambert OBE was an English television show producer. She was born in 1935 at London and died in 2007. Her first production was 'Dr Who', which she was the first producer of and worked on from 1963 to 1966 being employed by the BBC. She later produced episodes of the television series 'Jonathan Creek' in 1998 and formed her own production company. 'Cinema Verity'. She was awarded the OBE in 2002.

Arnold Ridley was an English actor, play-writer and film director. He was born in 1896 at Bath, Somerset and died in 1984. He is best known for playing the role of 'Godfrey' in the television comedy series 'Dad's Army', though previously he had appeared in the soap opera 'Crossroads' in 1964 as 'the Reverend Guy Atkins'. In 1982 he was awarded the OBE for services to British theatre.

Bill Oddie is an English actor, writer, composer, television presenter and ornithologist. He was born in 1941 at Rochdale, Lancashire. First appearing as a window cleaner in the 1967 film 'The Plank' he went on to be one of the three 'Goodies' in the 1970's television comedy show 'The Goodies' before presenting television shows about wildlife. In 2003 he was awarded the OBE for services to wildlife conservation.

Clive Dunn is an English actor. He was born in 1920. Entering acting in 1936 during the Second World War he served with the 4th Hussars, was captured and spent four years in a POW camp in Austria. After the war he returned to acting, and in the 1960s developed his role playing old men in the series Bootsie and Snudge before in 1968 being cast as the elderly Lance-corporal Jones in the BBC TV series 'Dad's Army', a role for which he won the OBE.
