IOMUD

The Iomud (also known as the Iomudskaya or Yamud) is a breed of Turkmenistan horse originating from the ancient Turkmenian horses. It was developed by the
Iomud tribe in the Tashauz oasis in southern Turkmenia. As the breed occupied the margin of the Turkmenian breed area, it was influenced by steppe breeds. During the 14th century, it was further influenced by Arabian stallions. In contrast to the Akhal-Teke, the Iomud breed is kept in herds in the desert and semi-desert. The Iomud stands 15 hands high, has a large clean-cut head, sometimes Roman-nosed, a medium-long neck; medium-high withers, a solid back with small curve to the withers, nicely turned and regularly sloping croup, a shallow chest; clean fine legs, often bowed; a sparse mane and tail and delicate skin. The colour is grey or chestnut, rarely golden chestnut or black. The Iomud is a long-lived healthy horse. It shows soft 'floating' action. The purebred population has declined substantially. Stud farms to preserve the Iomud genotype were set up in Turkmenia in 1983. They are charged with protecting the breed and restoring the breeding nucleus to a size of 240-250 mares from the present 140 mares. A conservation farm is being established in
the Kyzyl-Atrek district.

GIOVANNI BELZONI

Givovanni Battista Belzoni was an Italian traveller. He was in 1778 at Padua in 1778 and died near Benin in 1823. In 1803 he emigrated to England, where, being endowed with an almost gigantic figure and commensurate strength, he for a time gained his living as an athlete. In 1815 he visited Egypt, where he made a hydraulic machine for Mehemet Ali. He then devoted himself to the exploration of the antiquities of the country, being supplied with funds by Mr. Salt, the British consul-general. He succeeded in transporting the bust of Memnon (Rameses II) from Thebes to Alexandria, from whence it came to the British Museum; explored the great temple of Rameses II at Abu-Simbel; opened the tomb of Seti I, from which he obtained the splendid alabaster sarcophagus bought by Sir John Soane for 2000 pounds; and he also succeeded in opening the second (King Chephren's) of the pyramids of Ghizeh. He afterwards visited the coasts of the Red Sea, the city of Berenice, Lake Moeris, the Lesser Oasis, etc. The narrative of his discoveries and excavations in Egypt and Nubia was received with general approbation. He died during a projected journey to Timbuctoo.

RM/COBOL

RM/COBOL is an implementation of a CSA-certified COBOL that is based on the ANSI 74 standards. It executes on more than 35 operating systems, including PC DOS, MS DOS, TRS-DOS, RM/COS, OASIS, and Unix. The program is used often for accounting applications. RM/COBOL is available on the MC68000, Z80, 6809, Z8000, 8086, 9900, PDPll, LSI-11, and the IBM 30xx, 43xx, and 370 mainframes. A major advantage of RM/COBOL is its ability to develop an application on the mainframe for use on the PC or vice versa. Software developed in RM/COBOL on one system can execute on any
