Oligodendrocytes are a class of cells found in the central nervous system of vertebrates known as glial cells. Oligodendrocytes are one of two types of cell responsible for producing the fatty proteinmyelin - oligodendrocytes being found in the central nervous system, and Schwann cells which also produce myelin being found in the peripheral nervous system. Myelin produced by Oligodendrocytes insulates multiple axons. Research Oligodendrocytes
