BIRMAN

Picture of Birman

The Birman is a playful and well-disposed breed of cat, originating from Burma where it is the so-called Sacred Cat of Burma, or perhaps bred in France during the 1920s from a crossing of Siamese with black and white longhairs. The true origin of the breed is a mystery. The
Birman is a long-boned, muscular cat distinctive for its deep blue eyes and the pure white colouration of all four paws. The Birman is famous for being a placid, gentle, dignified cat that doesn't enjoy hunting, but does love to breed with the females becoming restless as young as seven months when on heat.

CARACAL

Picture of Caracal

The Caracal, Desert Lynx or Persian Lynx (Felis caracal or Caracal caracal) is a cat, formerly thought to be a species of lynx - with which they resemble - native to northern Africa and south-west Asia. It is about the size of a fox, mostly a deep-brown colour with tufts of long black hair on the ears. Studies conducted during the 1980's revealed that Caracals prey on a variety of mammals, with rodents making up almost 90% of their diet supplemented by birds which the Caracal is skilled at catching in flight - leaping into the air and swiping them with their front paws, larger mammals and occasionally carrion. In the wild Caracals are mainly active at night.

DORMOUSE

Dormouse (Myoxus) is a genus of mammiferous quadrupeds, of the order Rodentia. These little animals, which appear to be intermediate between the squirrels and the mice, inhabit temperate and warm countries, and subsist entirely on vegetable food. Their pace is a kind of leap, but they have not the activity of squirrels. Whilst feeding they sit upright and carry the food to their mouth with their paws. The dormice pass the winter in a lethargic or torpid state, reviving only for a short time on a warm sunny day, when they take a little of their hoarded stores and then relapse into the dormant state. One species (Myoxus avellanarius) is found in Britain, though it is in danger of extinction.

KORAT

Picture of Korat

The Korat is a natural breed of domestic cat that originated in the Korat province of eastern Thailand sometime before the 17th century. The breed was first mentioned in Britain at the National Cat Show in London in 1896 where it was described as a Blue Siamese, then nothing more is recorded until 1959 when a pair were taken to the USA from Thailand and in 1964 the Korat made its American debut at the Empire Cat Club show. The Korat is a semi-cobby, medium sized cat, supple and muscular with a rounded back. The front legs are slightly shorter than the hind, and the paws oval. The tail is of medium length, tapering to a rounded tip. The head is heart-shaped with a semi-pointed muzzle, a strong chin. The coat only occurs in a silver-blue colour, and is single-layered, short to medium length, glossy and fine. The Korat is very susceptible to viral infections in the respiratory tracts ('cat flu'). They are affectionate, quiet and gentle cats that love being handled, but are nervous of sudden loud noises.

PERSIAN CAT

Picture of Persian Cat

The Persian cat is a breed of longhair cat, developed from Asian cats of nearly 4000 years ago that may or may not have originated in Persia. The large, round head supports small, rounded ears that sometimes appear almost lost in the thick fur; these forward-tilting ears are set wide apart and low on the head. The eyes, large, round, and widely spaced, are most often a brilliant colour, but in certain varieties may be hazel, green, or blue. The body is cobby - short, thickset, and muscular rather than flabby - and carried on short, sturdy legs that end in large, round paws. The tail is short. The dense, flowing coat, which forms a large ruff at the neck and frills between the front legs, may be of six different solid colours and a wide variety of patterns. Playful in a more subdued manner than many cats, the Persian has long been the most popular pet of the cat world.
