Ranitidine HCl is a drug that inhibits both daytime and nocturnalbasal gastric acid secretions as well as gastric acid secretion stimulated by food, betazole, and pentagastrin. It is the active ingredient in many drugs including Zantac. Patients taking the drug should be aware that Ranitidine HCl is secreted in mother's milk, and as it is filtered out of the blood by the kidneys could damage a young baby's kidneys.
