The ratel or honey-badger is a carnivorous quadruped of the genus Mellivora, and of the badger family. It is found in south and east Africa and India. The South African or Cape ratel (Mellivora ratel) averages about one metre in length including an eight or nine inch tail.

The Ratel 20 is a South African six-wheeled infantry fighting vehicle designed in the 1970s as a replacement for British Saracen vehicles. The
Ratel 20 carries a crew of four plus seven passengers protected by 20 mm thick armour and is armed with a 20 mm cannon and two 7.62 mm machine-guns. A D 3256 BTXF six-cylinder diesel engine provides a top speed of 105 kmh and a range of 1000 km.
