REGRATING

An act was passed against regrators, forestallers, and ingrossers in 1552. A regrator was one who bought victuals in a market and sold them again within four miles of the same place; a forestaller was one who bought goods on their way to market; an ingrosser was one who bought large quantities with intent to sell at a higher price. The offences were punishable by two months' imprisonment. About thirty acts of a similar nature were repealed in 1883.
