SIAMESE

Picture of Siamese

The Siamese is a breed of short-haired cat known for its colouration, intelligence and svelte elegance. The coat is thick and glossy, with points on the mask, ears, feet, and tail which can be seal, chocolate, blue, or lilac coloured. The ears are large and pointed, the tail is long and thin and the eyes are sapphire blue. The Siamese has the loudest meow of all cat breeds. The breed originates from Asia and first appeared in Britain in the 1870s when the King of Siam gave a gift of two Siamese cats to Owen Gould, the English consul general in Bangkok, to take back to London.

KARL GUTZLAFF

Kart Gutzlaff was a German missionary. He was born in 1803 and died in 1851. He went out as a missionary to the Battas in Sumatra in August 1826, but settled instead in Batavia, Singapore, and Siam (Thailand). In 1831 he went to China, acted as British interpreter during the first Chinese war, visited Europe in 1849. He wrote various works about China.

The North American A-27 was an American built two-seater light attack bomber of the Second World War mainly built for export (ten were built for Siam, but Siam was invaded by the Japanese whilst the aircraft were en route, and the USA diverted the shipment to its own forces in the Philippines). It was powered by a Wright R-1820-75 radial piston engine rated at 785 hp providing a top speed of 250 mph and a range of 1287 km. The A-27 was armed with two 0.3 inch Browning fixed forward-firing machine-guns in the upper part of the forward fuselage firing through the propeller disc, two 0.3 inch Browning fixed forward-firing machine-guns in the wing leading edges and one 0.5 inch or 0.3 inch Browning trainable rearward-firing machine-gun in the rear cockpit. Up to 400 lb of disposable ordnance was carried on four under wing hard points, and generally comprising free-fall bombs.

The tical was a silver coin used in Siam (Thailand) and later in Burma (Myanmar). It was roughly equaivalent in value to an Indian rupee.
