MATTOCK

The mattock is an agricultural implement comprised of a metal head having blades at each end presented in different planes, and an eye in the middle into which a handle is inserted perpendicularly to the head. The cutting edges are presented like those of an axe and an adze, and the mattock was used formerly in forests and plantations for grubbing among stumps and trees whose roots prevented the use of a spade.

HOE

A hoe is an instrument for cutting up weeds and loosening the earth in fields and gardens. In shape the hoe is something like an adze, being a plate of iron or steel, with an eye for a handle, which is set at a convenient angle with the plate. The Dutch hoe differs from the common hand hoe in having the cutting blade set like the blade of a spade. A horse-hoe is a frame wheel-mounted, and furnished with ranges of shares spaced so as to work in the intervals between the rows of turnips, potatoes, etc. It is used on farms for the same purpose as the hand hoe, and was formerly pulled by horse-power.

MUSTAMAIJA

Mustamaija is a Finnish card game generally thought of as a children's game, though the tactical play is sufficiently interesting that adults can also enjoy playing it. The name translates roughly as 'Black Maria', but its only relationship to the British game of Black Maria (a variant of Hearts) , is that in both games the aim is to avoid being given the queen of spades.
Mustamaija is not a trick taking game like hearts - it is a beating game of the multiple attack type. There is no winner, only a loser of each hand. The loser is the player who is left holding the mustamaija (spade queen) when all the other players have run out of cards.
