The Sarrusophone is a conical-bore brass instrument similar in sound to the oboe named after its inventor, the French bandmaster Sarrus who in 1856 produced a design for the instrument's construction in several sizes ranging from soprano to contrabass. The sarrusophone is a double-reed valved instrument regularly found in military bands and sometimes used in a symphonyorchestra in place of the contrabassoon. Research Sarrusophone
