The semispinalis cervicis (semispinalis colli) stretch along and surround the vertebrae of the spine. These muscle run continuous with the semispinalis thoracis muscles. The semispinalis cervicis muscles originate from the transverse processes of the second to fifth thoracic vertebrae and insert into the spinous process of the axis and third, fourth, and fifth cervical vertebrae. The semispinalis muscles give the spine its flexibility to bend, as when taking a deep bow. The semispinalis cervices muscles, specifically, extend the cervical spine. These muscles are innervated by dorsal branches of the cervical and thoracic nerves and are supplied by muscular branches of the aorta. Research Semispinalis Cervicis
