George Rogers Clark was an American soldier. He was born in 1752 and died in 1818. He went from Virginia to Kentucky in 1775, where he became the leader against the hostile Indians and British, and did more than any other to secure the Northwest to the Republic. Among his more important enterprises were the defence of Harrodsburg, the capture of Kaskaskia and Vincennes by a famous expedition in 1778, the relief of Cahokia, the invasion of the Shawnee country and the defeat of the Miamis. Tecumseh (Tecumthe) was a Shawnee Indian chief. He was born in 1768 at Ohio and died in 1813. He conducted a fierce war against the United States for many years until his defeat at Tippecanoe in 1811. In 1811 he led an uprising against the Americans, and upon its suppression joined the British army as a brigadier-general in 1812, being given command of the Indian forces. The Battle of Point Pleasant Virginia was an engagement between Virginia troops and American Indians led by the Shawnee chief, Cornstalk. On October the 10th ,1774 the Indians crossed the Ohio River at night and fell upon General Andrew Lewis' encampment about sunrise. Colonel Charles Lewis and ColonelFleming were killed, besides many others. But General Andrew Lewis managed to save his camp and fend off the attack. The Indians withdrew. The Creek War was a war between the Creek Indians and the US government fought between 1813 and 1814. The Creek, who had been British allies in the War of 1812, were stirred up by the Shawnee chief Tecumseh and began the war in August 1813 by massacring some 500 Americans at FortMims, Georgia. General A Jackson was sent with some 5,000 soldiers to subdue the Creek. After winning initial battles, Jackson put an end to the war by his decisive victory on March the 27th 1814 at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. Dover is a city in Strafford County, New Hampshire, USA. Dover is situated at a waterfall of the Cochecho river which has long provided hydro-electric power to the city. Dover is one of the oldest cities in New Hampshire, being settled in 1623. In June 1689 the then town was attacked by Indians and twenty-three of the inhabitants were killed. Dover became a city in 1855.
