Homoeopathy is the name of a system of medicine introduced in the early 19th century by Samuel Hahnemann of Leipzig. It is a system founded upon the belief that drugs have the power of curing morbid conditions similar to those they have the power to excite, an old belief long ago expressed in the Latinphrase 'similia similibus curantur' (like is cured by like). In contradistinction to this system the more common method of treating diseases has been termed heteropathy or allopathy.
