FLY-CATCHER

Picture of Fly-Catcher

The fly-catcher is several species of insectivorous birds of the genus Muscicapa, tribe of Dentirostres, with a bill flattened at the base, almost triangular, notched at the upper mandible and beset with bristles. Two species are British - the spotted flycatcher (Muscicapa grisula) and the pied fly-catcher (Muscicapa (or ficedula) atricapilla), both about the size of a sparrow. They perch on branches and wait motionless for passing insects which they dart at and catch with a snap of the bill. The white-collared fly-catcher (Muscicapa albicollis) is a native of southern Europe. Numerous other birds receive the name of fly-catchers, and some, as the paradise flycatchers of the Old World, are brilliantly coloured. In America some of the tyrant birds (Tyrannidae) are named fly-catchers.

AUTOSKETCH

AutoSketch is software for drawing. As easy to use as painting software, it includes many CAD features. However, unlike typical painting software, AutoSketch keeps track of objects. This means that shapes do not get lost in a sea of dots. When an object is manipulated, it maintains its integrity as a complete unit. The product was designed for users with less demanding drawing requirements such as office layouts, simple technical drawings, and flowcharts.
AutoSketch is the best starting point for individuals who may be interested in upgrading to AutoCAD later. In addition, AutoCAD users may find AutoSketch useful in the early drawing stages.
AutoSketch can draw lines, arcs, circles, points, polygons and spline curves (free-form shapes). All basic drawing shapes can be moved, copied, stretched, rotated, mirrored, or scaled. For example, by pointing and clicking, you can create an office layout where walls and furniture can be moved or adjusted on-screen.
AutoSketch uses a mouse with pull-down menus and dialog boxes. AutoSketch includes other CAD features such as dimensioning and measuring, snap and ortho alignment, layers, and line types. Text can be added at any point, at any angle, and can be any height or width.
AutoSketch also allows you to insert another AutoSketch drawing, so you can create a library of objects for future use.

GEM DRAW PLUS

GEM Draw Plus by Digital Research, is a freehand-drawing program that runs under the GEM/3 desktop. As with other drawing programs, GEM Draw Plus provides a desktop of tools, similar to the way the Macintosh works. You can choose elements such as lines, boxes, circles, and other polygons and text in multiple fonts, sizes, and styles when creating an image. The product can be used to create organisation charts, page borders, floor plans, logos, and other types of diagrams. GEM Draw Plus has a library of over 100 pre-drawn icons and symbols which can be incorporated. Any picture you draw can be stored in your personal picture library and used in other drawings. Because GEM offers a windowing environment, graphics can be cut and pasted between windows.
GEM Draw Plus offers a choice of colours, patterns, line widths, and type styles. The zoom feature uses arrows and scroll bars to display areas of your picture for close detailed work. A Snap command automatically returns you to the spot on the grid where you were last working.

JAVELIN PLUS

Javelin Plus is a financial modelling tool designed for the development and analysis of business planning models. Because Javelin Plus is faster and, in many ways, easier to use than a spreadsheet, it appeals to a broad base of business analysts and financial planning professionals. Javelin Plus' s understanding of time periods such as weeks, months, quarters, and years makes it helpful in creating time-series models. It automatically calculates monthly figures from input data.
Javelin Plus minimises errors that are difficult to spot in complicated financial models by using formula-name references rather than cell references. Javelin Plus allows you to construct a model by defining relationships rather than by tediously defining a series of cells. Data is stored in an information base instead of a spreadsheet, so you can create the relationships between the different values and show them in several views rather than in a simple, flat matrix (although that is one of the options). Javelin Plus makes it easy to do forecasting because you can actually draw a graph in the quick graph view, and the product will insert the respective numbers into that variable' s data table (another view). For example, if you create a variable called East which is equal to the total sales of Boston, New York, and Toronto and a variable called First Quarter equal to January, February, and March, when you call for East and First Quarter,
Javelin Plus automatically adds the data associated with the three cities for the first three months. One of the most interesting aspects of Javelin Plus is the snap-in building block capability which allows users to develop fully integrated add-in tools. Snap-ins are open-architecture design features, similar to templates, that allow you to create unlimited applications which can be accessed as needed.
Javelin Plus allows text and date variables to be used in modelling as if they were numeric variables. This means you can base calculations in models on non-numeric data. You can perform true date arithmetic which is especially useful for querying in models that include databases. Database functions such as sorting and cross-tabulation are included. Javelin Plus also has improved worksheet-printing options for the worksheet view, including user-specified page breaks, margins, setup strings, and printer fonts. Graph styles include high-low-close, mixed line/bar, and XY plots of up to seven variables.

SUPERPAINT

SuperPaint combines the best features of painting and drawing programs in one package. SuperPaint contains both a drawing tool menu and a paint tool menu that are as comprehensive as the standalone equivalents of these applications. Icons appear depending upon whether you have chosen the drawing stylus or paintbrush tool. This lets you do pixel-based painting and object-oriented drawing on the same screen, each on separate layers. In addition to the standard commands and drawing and painting tools, SuperPaint has features to make creating your illustration easier than with some other programs. The program includes automatic scrolling which moves the page as your cursor moves, and snap-to grids which let you define the unit of measure for both grids and rulers. You can hide the command menus and use the entire screen for your illustration. At any time, you can choose to show the painted bit-mapped elements of your illustration, the drawn object-oriented elements, or both. There is also AutoTrace, the capability of automatically tracing bit-mapped
images in the Paint layer to create object-oriented line art in the Draw layer.
