A tachometer is a device for measuring the velocity of machines or the rate of flow of liquids. The term was first used to describe a device used for measuring the velocity of running water in a river or canal, and which consisted of a wheel with inclined vanes, which were turned by the current. The rotations of the wheel were then recorded by clockwork. Research Tachometer
