The Egg-bird (Sterna fuliginosa), is a species of tern, formerly a bird of considerable commercial importance in the West Indies, as its eggs, in common with those of two other species of tern, forming an object of profitable adventure to the crews of numerous small vessels.

The tern is a sea bird, especially those of the genus Sterna. They resemble a gull, but are usually smaller and with a more slender body. Terns have long, pointer wings and a forked tail giving rise to their alternative name of the sea-swallow.

Benjamin Franklin Wade was an American statesman. He was born in 1800 and died in 1878. He was a lawyer and Whig politician in Ohio; he had been in the State Senate and served as State Judge before his entrance into the US Senate. His term in that body covers the long period of 1851 to 1869. He rapidly became known as one of the most outspoken anti-slavery and later Republican leaders. He strongly opposed the Kansas-Nebraska measure, and during the Rebellion he was chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on the Conduct of the War. Senator Wade opposed President Lincoln to some degree on the Reconstruction problem, and was naturally in the opposition to President Johnson. He was chairman of the Committee on Territories, and was chosen President pro tern. of the Senate in 1867. President Grant appointed him to the San Domingo commission in 1871. Wade was a leading candidate for the vice-presidency in 1868, and chairman of the Ohio delegation in the convention that nominated Hayes.

On 11 June, 1969, the Royal Regiment of Wales was formed from the South Wales Borderers (24th Foot) and the Welch Regiment (41st/69th Foot) and The Prince of Wales was appointed Colonel in Chief. During the Great War the Welch Regiment provided 34 battalions and in the Second World War produced a further 11. In 1951 the Regiment saw active service in Korea. Since 1969 the 1st Battalion has served in Osnabruck, Belfast, Berlin, Aldershot, Belize, Lemgo, Warminster, Hong Kong and Tern Hill, and in 1994 it moved to Ballykelly for a two-year tour in the Province. The 2nd (Volunteer) Battalion, with its headquarters in Cardiff, was formed in November 1994 by the amalgamation of the 3rd and 4th (Volunteer) Battalions of the Regiment. The Regiment is privileged to have been the first to be permitted to use the term '2nd' Battalion, a number usually retained for use in case a 2nd regular battalion should ever need to be raised.

TOW is an acronym for Tube-launched Optically-tracked, Wire-guided. The tern TOW refers to an American wire guided type of anti-tank guided missile, designated BGM71A, first developed by Hughes for the American army in 1962 which entered service in 1970. TOW was developed as a crew portable or vehicle mounted heavy assault weapon for use against tanks, armoured vehicles and gun emplacements over ranges in excess of one mile. The TOW 2 missile has a range of 3750 metres and its shaped high-explosive warhead can penetrate more than 700 mm of armour. The TOW missile is guided by the operator who keeps the target centred in a telescopic sight, movement of the sight transmitting signals to the missile to amend its course.
The Miller Tern was an American single-seat high-performance sailplane first flown in 1965. The Miller Tern was a shoulder-wing cantilever monoplane of wood and glass-fibre construction and a top speed of 193 kmh in smooth air.

HMS Tern was a British River Gunboat of 262 tons displacement designed and built by the Yarrow company and launched in 1927 and sunk during the Second World War. HMS Tern was powered by Yarrow boilers providing a top speed of 14 knots. She carried a complement of 55 and was armed with two 3 inch anti-aircraft guns and eight machine-guns.
