Sir William Alexander Smith was the founder of the Boy's Brigade. He was born in 1854 at Thurso and died in 1914. He founded the Boy's Brigade in 1883 while in Glasgow, and spent the rest of his life organising the movement of which he was secretary, travelling extensively on behalf of the Boy's Brigade visiting Canada in 1895 and the USA in 1907.
