Corn Salad (lamb's-lettuce, Valerianella olitoria) is a plant of the family Valerianaceae native to Britain and Europe. It is a weak succulent herb which grows to about 25cm tall and is used as a salad in early spring.

SPIKENARD

Spikenard or nard (Nardostachys jatamansi) is a perennial herb of the natural order Valerianaceae, native to the Himalayas. It has a short, thick, very fragrant, spindle-shaped rootstock. The leaves are lance-shaped or spoon-shaped and tufted. The flowers are small, rosy-purple in colour and gathered into dense heads.

VALERIAN

Valerian is the Valeriana genus of plants of the family Valerianaceae having small fragrant flowers of white, purple or pink. The root was formerly used in medicine as a nerve sedative and antispasmodic. Common Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) is a perennial herb with a massive root system and a short rhizome, which bears angular, erect, furrowed, usually unbranched stems. It is native to Britain and Europe, where it grows on rough grassy and bushy places, often on damp soils.

Valerianaceae is the Valerian family of plants. They are chiefly natives of the north temperate zone and are herbaceous plants and shrubs having simple or compound, opposite leaves, clusters of small flowers, and dry, indehiscent fruit. Their medicinal properties as antispasmodics have been utilised from ancient days.
