W.C Fields was an American actor. He was born in 1880 at Philadelphia and died in 1946. Originaly William Claude Dukenfield, he left home at the age of 11 and entered show business at the age of 14 - playing the vaudeville circuit in the United States and Europe as a comic juggler before he became renowned for his film roles as a gravel-voiced, disreputable-looking, sharp- witted misanthrope who loathed children and animals.
