Zachris Topelius was a Swedish-Finnish author. He was born in 1818 and died in 1898. He was educated at Helsingfors. For a time he edited the Helsingfors News, in which many of his early stories and poems appeared, and he was professor of history at his own university from 1853 until 1878. His works include nature stories for children, translated into English as 'Whisperings in the Wood', a series of historical tales. Stories of the Surgeon written between 1858 and 1867, he also translated, a play, 'After Fifty Years', and wrote a number of poems. Research Zachris Topelius
