ZAHRINGEN

The Zahringen was a German battleship of 11800 tons displacement launched in 1901. The Zahringen was powered by six Schulz-Thornycroft boilers providing a top speed of 18 knots. She carried a complement of 683 and was armed with four 9.4-inch guns; eighteen 5.9-inch guns; twelve 3.4-inch (15 pdr) guns; two machine-guns and six 17.7 inch submerged torpedo tubes positioned at the bow, stern and broadside. After the Great War she had her turrets removed and was used as a training ship at Danzig before being rebuilt in 1928 as a wireless-controlled target ship with a reduced compliment of 104 and a top speed of 13 knots.

TECK

Teck was an ancient duchy in Wurtemberg, Germany. The ducal title was first assumed by Adalbert of Zahringen in 1152. The title lapsed during the 15th century and was revived in 1495 and was granted to the dukes of Wurtemberg.

VAUD

Vaud is a Swiss canton adjoining France and Lake Geneva. Formerly part of the kingdom of Aries, the distrisct became imperial in the llth century. The counts of Savoy ruled over it in the 13th century and after having been successfully held by the Franks, the Kings of Burgundy, emperors of Germany, dukes of Zahringen and the dukes of Savoy it was conquered by the Bernese in 1536 and annexed in 1554. In 1798 it was made independent and joined the confederation in 1815.
