ZUCCHETTO

A zucchetto is a Roman Catholic skull-cap worn by an ecclesiastic and (prior to 1973) covering the tonsure. The colour of the zucchetto varies with rank: that of a priest is black, of a bishop or monsignor purple, of a cardinal red and of the pope white.
